Trulia Updates Android App with More Interactive Google Map

At Trulia we’re all about giving our consumers the inside scoop on their home search. That’s why we’re incorporating the latest Google Maps Android API in our Android app to give users a more seamless experience when searching for a place to buy or rent on-the-go.

Starting tomorrow, Trulia’s free Android app for mobile and tablets will feature a more interactive map, powered by the new Google Maps Android API, allowing Trulia users to easily navigate 2D or 3D views to discover crime, school attendance zones, and nearby amenities like restaurants, gas stations, and grocery stores. This information provides users with the inside scoop and allows them to compare neighborhoods, while making their home search easy and fun.

Trulia’s Android apps provide home facts, listing details, and open house info for homes and rentals on the market across the US. Some of the key features include vivid photo slideshows, real-time notifications for saved homes and searches, and local neighborhood info to help consumers find the right place to live.

3D view showcasing homes for sale

In addition to the new Google Maps Android API, we’ve also added a mortgage center tool to help you easily determine whether you can afford the house you have your eye on. Key features include:

  • Personalized Loan Quotes – See personalized loan quotes from a number of real lenders, in real time
  • Quote Comparison – Easily sort your quotes by lowest fees, APR, rate, or payment to find ones just right for you
  • Affordability Calculator – Determine the home price you can afford and see a visual breakdown of your monthly and total payment
  • Connect with Lenders – Contact a lender directly from your Android device to learn more about a specific quote

Mobile devices are increasingly critical to home hunters and real estate professionals. We are the leading mobile platform for the home search process as 30% of Trulia’s traffic comes from mobile on an average week. According to our research, consumers using mobile devices are more likely to contact a real estate professional, and at times during the peak hours on the weekend (when most people are on-the-go visiting open houses) our mobile traffic surpasses online traffic.

The new upgrade comes just in time for the holidays, when people will be furiously downloading apps onto their new Android devices. If you’re shopping for an Android device for someone on your gift list, make sure you download Trulia’s Android app to help them with their 2013 home search. And as always, we value your feedback. Please email android@trulia.com to let us know how much you love the app or if you have any questions.

Trulia Partners with Leading Rental Listings Providers in San Francisco

Trying to rent a place in San Francisco can be a daunting challenge. Not only does the city offer many different neighborhoods and amenities to consider, but the booming job market is fueling competition for apartments, which is pushing prices up. During the month of June, amongst the largest 25 metro areas in the country, San Francisco experienced the highest year-over-year increase in asking rent prices at 14.7%, making responding to listings quickly more important than ever.

In light of all this, we were excited to announce today, that both J.Wavro Associates and RentSFNow, will syndicate their San Francisco rental listings to Trulia, making a distinctive group of new properties available to Trulia users. This is just one example of the work that Trulia is doing with its partners in the real estate industry to present consumers with great listings around the country.

While the company is busy providing the best rental listings, it’s also been building mobile apps that empower consumers and take the friction out of apartment hunting. With Trulia’s mobile apps, consumers can personalize their search with specific apartment criteria and then receive notifications as soon as corresponding properties become available. In addition, listings are color-coded to show what that person has viewed previously, what they haven’t seen and perhaps most importantly, the most recent listings, to help them find and act upon rentals quickly.

Expect to see more activity from us, as we work to provide great rental listings and powerful tools for finding the right place to live.

Renters comprise a significant (and rapidly growing) portion of mobile visits, especially on our current Android app. We‘re now providing a dedicated “For Rent” app that caters to renters’ specific needs. Renters have to work on much tighter timeframes than house hunters, so we’ve packed our app with features that help you quickly organize and customize your searches, and keep all your notes and photos in one place!

We’ve given you the ability to instantly save or nix properties, which will allow you to re-visit the properties you love, and flag the properties that you’re not interested in.

Customized map search

To make your rental search truly your own, you can add your own private notes and photos to listings and share these via email with your roommates, significant other, or trusted advisors.

Private notes and photos help you quickly recall details about each home that are most important to you

Get instant alerts via email when a new property is added to Trulia – simply click the star at the bottom of any search results page to “save your search,” and you’ll never miss out on another new home again:

Here Comes Android 2.0 and a Brand New Widget

Hello Trulia Android Fans and Loyal Users!

Today we’re announcing a new release of our Trulia Android app to give you an even better real estate experience on your Android phone.

Trulia’s Android app already gives you all the great Trulia information you love, including location-based real estate search for listings, rentals and recently sold properties, and full-screen high-resolution photos. Those features are great, but we decided that for this next release, we needed to make your Android real estate search faster, easier and even more fun! How are we going to do that, you ask?

First, we added a useful (and good-looking!) Android widget that alerts you to new properties for sale, either near your current location, or any other set location of your choice. It even works if you’re offline and temporarily without connectivity. Pretty sweet.

The good-looking Trulia Android widget

Since you now know you gotta have this widget, here are the simple steps to install the widget on your Android phone homescreen:

1) Install or upgrade your Trulia Android app to the newest version
2) Hold your finger down for a few seconds in an empty position on your Android phone homescreen
3) When a menu appears, select the “Widgets” or “Android Widgets” option
4) Scroll until you find the Trulia Android widget and select it to install
5) Enjoy! You’ll now receive updated Trulia listing for-sale properties at-a-glance on your Android phone’s homescreen!

On top of the release of our new widget, we’ve made the Trulia Android app faster by improving the map stability and data throughout. We’ve also added some fun design transitions to make your real estate search more enjoyable.

Be sure to checkout some of the features that you, the users, have told us are your absolute favorite, including local neighborhood information such as restaurants and schools, sharing favorite properties with family and friends, voice search, and syncing favorite properties and searches to a Trulia account.

Here’s a short video to help introduce you to the Trulia Android app:

As always, let us know what you think by dropping us a note at android@trulia.com. We welcome your feedback (lot size searchers, we hear you!) We have exciting plans for Trulia on Android, so watch for more great updates coming soon!
